A field recording from 02001. About 6 weeks after 9/11, The MVM drove a 26' truck packed to the gills with a call center from Chicago, IL to Clearwater, FL. The sounds in the cab in the wee hours of night in a torrential rain with the radio blaring were glorious and hallucinatory. Since we were working, we decided to record our business day. Excised is the first hour plus, when we were too close to Chicago to get anything interesting on the radio. We used a Sony MiniDisc recorder and a pair of binaural mics on our trucker hat.

The recording is hypnotic. It is marred by only one interruption.

Somewhere along the way we were stopped for having out of state plates. It was pissing rain. It was 2:00 or 3:00 AM. We were driving just fine. We were pulled over and our truck searched. All of it. They brought out a tent and a slew of troopers to unload and reload the truck in the rain. It was kind of crazy. Fortunately, for us, we were not unwitting drug mules (that day) nor were we terrorists. We were just knowmadic workers with weird taste in musick. This encounter was captured, and appears here, because the passing traffic is a form of sonic magick itself.
