about

Elegy is a horspiel, a form of radio play alive and thriving in Germany still today. Horspiel tells a story in sound and word. At the MVM, we lean away from the words in our horspiel, often describing it as abspiel, instead. Words or no, abspiel are scripted, crafted tales, just with most of the storytelling left to the imagination of the viewer.
Elegy is the first abspiel the MVM ever crafted, that was way back in 01999. It was released in an edition of 10, in glass CD cases with leather inserts.
3 copies of the CD went into the 3 CfOC box sets created in 02000. Two of those were sold to friends we are no longer in contact with. One box set was given away to a friend we still adore. We sort of hope he still has it. We sort of hope he hasn't lugged around a glass box containing 12 CDs and a DVD all packaged in glass and leather for twenty years. The other 7 CDs? No idea. Honestly, we do not know to whom we gave those 7 copies.
Elegy is the first composition by the MVM that we consider finished or mature. It was born of a five year project by the founding members of The MVM titled Create & Destroy. Inspired by a retreat the wandering guru N. Senada, we pledged to destroy everything we made the moment it was complete, and to continue creating and destroying until we felt we could finally express the world we heard in our heads. Elegy was the first work to meet that criteria.
