Title: Nocturne For A Winter Solstice Dark: Soulstice Celebrations; Soulstice Incantations; Soulstice Requiems: The Triadoccult In Tears Of Joy, Rage, & Sorrow

Winter was hard.

Was?

Is.

This does not mean it cannot be a time of intense joy, though.

The solstices and equinoxes are the times of year most important to The MVM.
In particular, the Winter Solstice is the most important day of the year to us.
It is such an important day in our world, that we chose it for our marriage to our spouse, The Muse Kelliope!

For the 02021 Solstice we crafted this nocturne to last from sunset to sunrise celebrating the longest night of the year.
Begin playing this nocturne at sunset on the Winter Solstice, and upon the nocturne's completion at sunrise, the day, and each day following, is a little bit longer, a little bit brighter.
That is some of this Nocturne Dark's magick; that is one of the soulstice celebrations of the title, and one of the incantations.

This piece is also a celebration of a marriage that took place on the solstice nine years ago. The magick of that union with the Muse Kelliope; the musick it has inspired is an incantation fulfilled.

This work was only originally intended to be a celebration and an incantation, it was not intended to be a requiem as well. However, during its composition a dear grandmother to the triadoccult died. Her death informs this work profoundly, as her life informed so much of our work. We last saw her at her 100th birthday party, just before the pandemic choked the world. As ever, at 100 she was profoundly inspiring in her vivacious curiosity.
No matter how bizarre, how esoteric, how long, how unlistenable our musick was, B**** asked about it, and as importantly, asked about the rationales behind it; she was curious to understand it, to know what theorists and thinkers inspired it. Not long after she heard that we released our first Requiem, "Requiem For..." last year, she arranged for one of her children to play it for her.
If there is a primary incantation to this Dark Nocturne, it is, May We All Be So Lucky As To Remain Curious To Hear New Music At 102 Years Of Age.
B**** and her family are an incredible blessing to The MVM.
So this work is a requiem for her. And a celebration of her life. And an incantation for her in life and afterlife. It is magick for the bardo.

We also lost an uncle during the composing of this nocturne. It is surely a requiem for him, as well, though another requiem we recently began is more directly his, as it is built from the bones of Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow", a more fitting superstructure to his interests.

Which is a convenient segue to the germ of this nocturne/requiem/incantation. This work was inspired by the band No Trend, in particular a live show we saw in 01983 (01984? Whenever. Their first tour.) It was one of the most important live shows we ever experienced. Not least because, of the twenty some people in attendance, we seemed to be the only ones who enjoyed it. No Trend's transgression was so much of what our teenage hearts desired. It was unbridled noise and rage and spectacle. (Unfortunately, that was married to a lack of morality and fraternity, but that is another story.) The performance, the albums, were life changing nihilism. For us, anyway. And (us being jerks) maybe mostly BECAUSE the performance and albums were not remotely important or even enjoyable for anyone else there that night.

This nocturne is a celebration of the power of musick, and an incatation of powerful magick; it is a spell cast blindly and recklessly into the electronic ether in hopes that it impacts one soul the way that show impacted us.

Chamber Doom FTW!
