Title: ...And Above The Mists... (Requiem Mass)

Written August 9th 02021, the day we uploaded this as a private album clearly expecting to make it a public release shortly thereafter:

A journey with the dead

We have about 35 more compositions to complete and upload before we take a break from music and write a novel.
You know, plans, the only thing standing between a life well lived and a death self inflicted.

Our First Requiem, Requiem For..., is slowly being realized by human beings, which feels somewhat anachronistic, but, hey, we've never been stylistically constrained before, so why start now?

Our Second Requiem looks to be brutally long, and may take years (like our opera, Kestrel, it will live alongside the novel, tentatively titled A Gentle Critique Of Art In The 22nd Century.)

Our Third Requiem (like the work that precedes it) flew together like demons congregating around a condemned soul in Hell. Fitting, given that we transcribed field recordings from the dying room of a family member to craft it. Every note you here is born of her final 24 hours. How hard could composition be when born of conflicted pain interpreted by algorithms?

_______________________________________________

Written on the actual day of public release March 29th 02022:

Almost eight months ago we finished composing this album. Truthfully, we don't recall that. We don't recall uploading these first 9 hours. We have a few items in our private albums, usually things we are listening to and sharing with collaborators before official release or albums on other labels we aren't sharing on our page but want to be able to hear on our site for convenience.

That this album was private for so long confuses us. It is unlike us to walk away from a project midstream, or to forget about a project completely.

Since the death this album eulogizes, however, there have been four more substantial family/life losses for The MVM. It was a hard Winter.

We feel we may mourn for quite some time, some things will certainly never be the same, some losses can never be replaced, some leave permanent scars, some leave a dark emptiness that slowly fills with ugliness and pain. It feels eternal, but almost certainly isn't.

The score for this album is 24 hours long. The composition is in Ableton completed, waiting to be exported and uploaded.
We feel, however, that this album is complete as is. We uploaded it as is. We titled it and wrote the original text. It feels today as if this work in its unfinished state is more complete than if it were to be completed, it better represents the emotions of the Requiem, of loss, of death; and perhaps more specifically of death during pandemic, when we have lost so many without the opportunity to say goodbye, to physically touch, to gather and mourn and cry and remember and tell stories as a family, as a tribe, as a community. In trying to survive the pandemic as an industrial machine made of flesh, we continued our 12,000 year long evisceration of what animates the flesh, be it soul, spirit, what have you.

This Requiem is unfinished like tens of millions of acts of mourning over the past two years.
