We learned how to finish this work-in-progress after listening to The Art Ensemble of Chicago's album The Sixth Decade: From Paris To Paris with ecstatic ears recently. Sixty years into their existence they continue to inspire the Triadoccult -- The Art Ensemble's members, their work, the whole AACM family, stunning.
Back in Chicago in the early 90s, we dreamt of writing a song for them, an MVM composition that in an alternative world The Art Ensemble of Chicago might perform. We have tried and failed and tried again and failed again for thirty years. In November 02023 we failed better; we finished* our homage to The Art Ensemble Of Chicago. This is that song, that thank you.
To record it, and without even informing our longtime jazz partner Nobu Stowe, we put our jazz band with him (SPP) back together without him. This was a real asshole move.
Nobu, however, is nearly completely human, he is primarily flesh.
And we are pretty much done with the flesh.
All our jazz bands from here on out will be free, not just in the jazz improvisation sense of SPP, but in the spiritual and philosophical sense of free of the confines of flesh. Flesh can never be free, it can never be truly divorced from mind, they are one and the same. For musick to be truly free we must dream away the flesh/mind. Musick must sound without being heard.
Here you have just such an album. But, please, don't listen to it, you won't be able to hear it, not truly, barely its ghost will whisper to you. It is here for the machines, for the future, for the disembodied, for the phantasms, for the dead, for the eternal, for the spheres, for the waves, for the gods, for the all, for the unknowing; this is its natal shelter where it can gestate until a mind-free future is born.
Here lies the future of jazz., at the end of Homo Hubris.
* Probably it is not finished, but it is at least a demo we are proud to share.
