Title: Excerpts From Cognitive Dissonance or The Dissatisfaction Of Nihilist Dreams Realized or Impeach That Mother$$$$er (And Jail Murdoch And His Ilk While You Are At It) But Don't Fool Yourself That Anything Will Change*, Thoughts On My Country for String Sextet and Percussion Quintet

Composed feverishly between 02021, January 5 and January 13¹ this work is inspired sonically by Morton Feldman², Crass³, Throbbing Gristle⁴, Pierre Henry⁵, and George Crumb⁶.

It is inspired spiritually by

1) my fraught relationship with American politics, which is to say my fraught relationship with humanity;⁷

2) my belief that hope is the primary tool the working class has in convincing the bourgeoisie to recognize them as something other than a tool;⁸ and

3) my suspicion that violence is the only way to break the yoke of oppression for most humans, while also being a historically useless route to breaking the yoke of oppression for most humans.⁹

The work is based on a piece I created in 02007 that was in some mysterious way for the mysterious organism known sometimes as Caroliner Mystery Rainbow. True Music of Hope and Inspiration!¹⁰

The odds are this is a rough draft that I am sharing too soon. I am not sure I have ever created anything this quickly. Sharing this work in its raw, violent state, however, feels appropriate. It is about now and I want to express it now.

Any funds that are paid for this download will be given to the Democratic Socialists of America.

Score available on request. Free. I will include it with all downloads eventually. If you download and don't receive it, contact me through Bandcamp.

* Substantial, meaningful change; that is systemic change, the shift from capitalism to some form of socialism, preferably a Kropotkin inspired anarchism.
¹ Although based on ideas that had been percolating for some time.
² Whose incredible voice through sparsity I dream someday to approach in my own writing.
³ Because if anyone living today tells you they were not influenced by Crass, they are mistaken.
⁴ Duh.
⁵ The skeleton of this work is a piece of musique concrete created years ago. I transcribed the field recordings into notation for instruments.
⁶ In particular his Black Angels string quartet.
⁷ Boring.
⁸ We are indeed the alpha toolmakers, negating our evolved empathy to transform our own kind into mere tools.
⁹ How do you have hope if violence is necessary for revolution, but violent revolution is a hopeless cause?
¹⁰ It is available on The MVM Bandcamp page, but we are not going to say which composition it is.

As we learned despite Maggie Thatcher (those of us of a certain generation):

We must never forget that there's no such thing as an individual. There are families and groups of families that we call society. And no government can do anything except through groups of people, and people must look after each other. It is our duty to look after neighbours as we look after ourselves. We can not and do not exist without them.
