Matti Cicero Weisberg - Earth Is A Breathing Valley

about

The fifth and final chapter of an in-process musical children’s story titled Every Force Evolves a Form. The book traces the arc of a particle from its creation via interaction to its recognition of itself through the eyes of a human. In this, the final chapter, a human sets out on a winter’s hike to discover that the planet they live on is a living creature. Written for small ensemble, the score weds interactivity and formality through a mix of graphic, staff and embodied notation. Its aim is to imagine a piece that has a recognizable and stable identity yet is enacted differently each time it is encountered.

Matti Cicero Weisberg is a sound artist, farmer and educator based in
Holyoke, MA. They combine their training in biostatistics, theology,
aesthetics and social justice to approach sound as a living body that
absorbs space and entangles its inhabitants. The result is an ecosystem of practices which, through a lens of transness, seeks to find beautiful homologies between the socially contingent experience of selfhood and the relational behavior of matter itself. Their works take many forms including singing sculptures, hybrid text/graphic/notated scores for small ensembles, illustrated allegories, original baroque pop music, a gestural controller for improvised trumpet performance, and electroacoustic work for multichannel playback.
